The 5 Crosses – Evangelism Tool

The Five Crosses is a method of sharing the gospel developed by Pastor Danny Forshee.  This gospel method is easy to remember and centers around 5 aspects of the Cross.

First Cross – The Symbol

The cross is the most recognized symbol in the world. Why is the cross so widely recognized and celebrated, hanging around people’s necks or tattooed on their bodies?  The cross points to a Person who died on the cross.  God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so we could have an abundant and eternal life!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”John 3:16

Notice it has a vertical line intersected by a horizontal line. The vertical represents our relationship with God.  God loves us, is for us, and  wants us to know Him.  We could not reach up to him so he reached down to us with Jesus.  The only way for us to know God is because Jesus paid the price for our sin.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:8

Notice next the horizontal line. The horizontal speaks to our relationship with one another. God created us as social beings to be in relationship with others and to have peace with our fellow man. When we are rightly related to God through Christ then we are empowered to love and forgive based on the love and forgiveness we have received from God.  Jesus told us the two greatest commandments are to love God and love each other.

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”Matthew 22:39

Fourth Cross – The Message

The message of the cross changes lives. The same God who changed lives in the Bible changed my life.  Like the man in John 9:25

“He answered and said, ‘Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.’ “

Fifth Cross – The Question

This fifth cross points to you and your relationship with God. God loves you.  He invites you to believe in His Son and turn from your sins.

“if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”Romans 10:9

Pray a prayer like this:

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I want to turn from my sins, and I ask for Your forgiveness.  I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son.  I believe He died for my sins and that You raised Him to life.  I want Him to come into my heart and to take control of my life.  I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow Him as my Lord from this day forward.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
