It is Good Friday. Thank You, Jesus, for dying on the cross for my sins and rising from the dead on the third day! Tonight many in Austin will be gathering for the annual Good Friday service at the Erwin Center. I will be one of the pastors participating in the service and Terry Hurt will lead the combined choirs. I am honored to serve and to minister to our city. However, I am saddened that many of our people (along with thousands of others in Austin) were unable to download the free tickets due to the fact that the tickets went very quickly! I am praying that God will bless the service, that Jesus will be praised, and that His church will come together in unity under the banner of the Cross.
On Sunday we will celebrate Jesus’ powerful resurrection―that miraculous day when He robbed the grave and death of their power. Praise His name! I will preach the gospel using the “Resurrection Eggs” for illustration. We will have one service at 10:00am followed by the helicopter egg drop around 11:00am. Please pray for good weather because if it rains we will not be able to have the egg hunt outdoors; we will have to bring it inside and fill the Great Hall and Atrium with 20,000 eggs. I know that sounds scary, so please pray for good weather. But rain or shine, God is good and He has a plan.
I appreciate those who have offered to serve in our First Impressions Ministry of greeting guests and helping them feel welcome. The team will meet Sunday at 9:00am for a brief time of training. I ask that all our people help on Sunday by parking in some of the outer perimeter places or in the parking spaces near the church office entry and reserve the more prime spots for our Easter guests.
Please pray for Ashley and me as we prepare to leave Sunday night to travel to Europe with the Spencers for an intense twelve days of serving our Lord in many capacities. We will be working with pastors, church planters, seminary faculty and students, and also ministering to Syrian and Iranian refugees. Please pray for God to use us and to watch over us as we serve. Upon our return, I look forward to sharing with the church all that God did.
I pray that God blesses you with a wonderful weekend. Take some time over the next couple of days to reach out to those you meet and invite them to join you for worship at Great Hills on Sunday. Remember, we start at 10:00am.
