There’s much happening in and around our church. We are making great progress on our new coffee shop, library, flooring, and painting. You will notice on Sunday how far the work has progressed. It is beginning to take shape, and we still have a ways to go, but you will be very pleased with our new look, I do believe. We are $93,000 away from reaching our goal of $1.2 million for all the Building Vision Phase One renovations and remodels. Thank you so much for all your sacrificial giving to bring this about. If we all pitch in a little extra, we can knock out our goal and then begin Phase Two. The coffee shop will provide a great place for our people to fellowship on Sunday mornings and should be completed in time for us to host the Southern Baptists of Texas Annual Bible Conference and Meeting, November 13-15.
God continues to use our church to reach people here in Austin and all over the world. Please be in prayer for our teams currently in Maui and South Asia, and for our North Africa team as they prepare to go at the end of September. We are hosting a dessert fellowship to meet with our partners currently serving in North Africa this Sunday night, August 28, at 6:00pm in room C248. I invite you to come hear what God is doing in this part of the world. If you have questions about this event, please contact our Missions Director, Becky Dean, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Like so many of you, I have been very burdened for those who have lost so much in the flooding in Louisiana. It is heart-breaking to see so much devastation and loss. Our church is making a donation to the Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge. You can make a financial gift to the Disaster Relief ministry of our Southern Baptist North American Mission Board by clicking here.
I feel the Lord leading me to begin a men’s discipleship and encouragement ministry on Thursday mornings. I want to invite all the men of GHBC to come out and participate during the fall and spring. I will teach a brief devotional from the book of Proverbs and we will then get in small groups for times of fellowship, discipleship, and accountability. We are asking the men of GHBC who are already disciple makers to help by recruiting 5-7 other men who will join you on Thursday mornings from 6:30 to 7:30am. If I can get up that early certainly not being a morning person, anyone can! Seriously, many men in our church and certainly in our community are struggling with many pressures and difficulties. Ladies, will you help us by encouraging your husband and dad to join us starting September 22 in the Great Hall at 6:30am? Guys, if the church leadership asks you to be one of the small group leaders, I ask that you prayerfully consider serving in this way. If you have comments or questions, please e-mail Ross Hartsfield at email@example.com.
Have a blessed weekend. I hope you are able to come Sunday for Bible study, fellowship, and worship.
