This Week @ Great Hills

August 4, 2017

Greetings, church family. I hope this note finds you doing well.  My family and I are on a few days of vacation and are enjoying being together.  We will all be in church on Sunday as it will be a special day for our family.  Our son, Bryant, will be preaching during the morning worship service.  He is the Minister of Junior High Students at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano.  I am looking forward to hearing Bryant as God speaks to him and through him to our church.
There is a lot of excitement and anticipation regarding our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting which begins on Tuesday, August 8.  We ask that on this day you fast from something and dedicate more time to seeking God for our church.  We will have a noon prayer meeting in the worship center on this Tuesday and each Tuesday during our 40 days emphasis. On Tuesday, August 8, I will email you a brief devotional which will contain a special request to pray for on that day.  Each day during the 40 days either I or one of our pastors will write a brief devotional for you, which will be emailed to you.  I think it will be such a blessing and benefit for our church as each day we will all be focused on the same prayer request. During the final week of the 40 days emphasis we will have an around-the-clock confession and Bible reading.  We will share more about this in the upcoming days and weeks.
Please continue to pray for our radiant church as we shine the love of God to our city and the cities of the world.  Currently, we have two teams–one in Toronto, Canada, and the other in Burbank, California–working with church plants that we have been helping for a few years.  I love how our church has a desire to see churches planted all over the world.  On September 17, the day we complete our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, we will commission Pastor Stu Smithson, his family, and 29 GHBC members to plant Cornerstone Community Church in the Cedar Park/Leander area.  Exciting times!
Thank you for your continued faithfulness in serving, giving, and praying for our church.  God is at work, and I believe that our best days of effective service and ministry still lie in the future.
I am sure I will see many of you tomorrow for the funeral service of Aileen Yager. Kyle Miller will give the eulogy, Terry Hurt will lead us in worship songs, and I will preach the message.  Please continue to pray for David and his family during this very hard time.
Onward with Jesus!
