Christmas is only a few days away and what a wonderful time of year it is! I pray that you and your family have a blessed holiday season. I am looking forward to Sunday and to preaching a message I have written over the last two weeks entitled “The Characters of the First Christmas,” based on Matthew 2:1-12. Take some time this weekend to read over Matthew’s account of the birth of Jesus and how Herod, the wise men from the east, and the religious leaders all played a part. Also, please take some time to invite others to join you for worship on Sunday.
Before you get too busy tomorrow, come join us at the church at 9:45am as we go out into our 78759 zip code and engage in servant evangelism. We will bless our neighbors around the church with Christmas gifts and an invitation to visit us this holiday season.
Please plan to join us for our annual Christmas Eve service which starts at 5:00pm and ends around 5:40pm. We will sing Christmas carols and I will share a brief message on the true meaning of Christmas.
Pastor O’Chester will preach on December 28. He is a great preacher of the Word of God and you will be blessed to hear his sermon.
As I mentioned Sunday, thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord in giving your tithes and offerings. Many of you have really stepped up your commitment to give and it shows. Please join my family in continuing to give generously to GHBC. Also, please give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for our international missionaries. Our goal is $100,000 and we are at about 25% of our goal.
Related to finances, last Sunday we had a great business meeting at which time our church voted unanimously to approve the 2015 Operating Budget. Our budget is slightly less than last year’s, but we increased our giving to missions and that is exciting to me! And allow me to give you a quick update on the ground lease. We discussed the possibilities of a ground lease in our town hall meeting on October 12 and then voted on October 19 to engage in a ground lease. Much prayer, planning, meetings and progress have happened since the church voted to move forward. Please keep praying for us. I hope to have some good news to share with you on January 11 in my State-of-the-Church message.
Have a blessed and safe Christmas. Be careful on the roads. I speak from experience when I say the streets are crowded and accidents are a distinct possibility!
