Our Christmas Eve service starts at 5:00pm. I want to encourage you to come and invite others to join you. I have had good opportunities to share with people during this holiday season and have used this service as an occasion to invite people to GHBC. People are very open to spiritual conversations during this most wonderful time of the year. During the Christmas Eve service we will sing Christmas carols and I will share a message entitled “The Colors of Christmas.”
Our church will be blessed on Sunday to hear our own Nate Ingle preach a message entitled “Scattered Responses” from Luke 8:11-15. Nate just graduated on Friday with his Master’s Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. (Bethany Hartsfield Wilkinson also graduated from Southwestern on Friday.) Nate is our church accountant and does an excellent job for us. He is a man of God and integrity, and we appreciate him and Heather and their sweet family.
Speaking of Nate, please remember our end-of-year giving for 2015. All checks or gifts online must be submitted before midnight December 31. We are closing the gap between our 2015 expenses and giving, but still have a way to go. I thank you so much for your faithful and generous giving. And please don’t forget to give to our annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Our goal is $75,000 and thus far we have collected $38,422.
We have an exciting January planned for 2016. We will show the movie War Room at 6:30pm at the church on Saturday, January 16, and on the 17th I will preach a message on the power of prayer. Education Pastor Ross Hartsfield writes, “For the whole month of January, but especially on January 17, we will be enlisting our members to become intercessors for our Warriors on the Wall Prayer Ministry. Training for intercessors will take place on Wednesday night, January 27, and then at 9:30am on Sunday, January 31. Good days of prayer ahead! Once our intercessors are trained and praying, we will gather them together for corporate prayer at least one time each quarter. All intercessors will be available to pray when the need exists.”
Ashley, our kids, and I will travel to Virginia this holiday season to spend time with her family. My dear wife has really struggled in 2015 with many health issues—tearing her ACL, back pains, and now a very difficult time following her wisdom teeth extractions. She is ready for 2016 to come and come fast! I ask that you pray for us while we are away, that it would be a time of rest, recharging, and a time of hearing from the Lord as we approach what I believe will be a most pivotal year for GHBC.
