This Week @ Great Hills

February 5, 2016

Praise the Lord for His blessings and power manifested in our worship service last Sunday.  Many have commented on how they felt the Lord’s presence during our time of worship.  I am grateful to God for His favor upon our church as we seek to be a radiant body of believers taking the gospel to the ends of the earth.  I met a man after the worship service who told me that he awoke at 7:30am and somehow I was on his TV preaching (we broadcast our sermons on KBVO).  He got out of bed and came to church. It was his first time to ever visit Great Hills.  He said he would bring his family this Sunday. Tuesday evening as I was leaving the gym I met a mom and three kids who were having car trouble. I bought her a battery and a friend of mine and I replaced the old battery with the new one.  I shared with her that at our church we are focusing on being a good neighbor. She told me that they would all come to church on Wednesday night. Sure enough, they came and she said they thoroughly enjoyed being here at Great Hills.  I could go on and on about many God stories showing how the Lord is working in and through our church family–people are being saved, others are surrendering to the call of ministry, prayers are being answered, and many other wonderful ways that the Holy Spirit is moving in power in and through Great Hills.

Sunday we will begin with prayer at the altar a few minutes before 11:00am.  Please come a little early and join us in prayer as we ask God to visit us in power.  We will observe the Lord’s Supper and I will share a message from James 4:5-10 entitled “The Table of Grace.”  Invite someone to join you in your Connect Class and for worship.  On Wednesday evening I was speaking to one of our Great Hills members who was on her way to choir rehearsal. She made the connection between the Lord’s working in our church with the 100+ prayer warriors in our Warrior on the Wall ministry.  And you know what?  She is absolutely 100% correct!  When our knees bow in prayer, God’s hand of favor and blessing begins to move.  Thank you WOTW prayer warriors; God hears and He is answering your prayers.

I have some exciting news to share as we move ahead with some of the remodels and upgrades to our church campus through Building Vision.  Because you have given $611,000 since August, we are making plans to finalize the architectural drawings and move ahead with creating a large coffee shop to provide a place of fellowship for our church members and the many guests God continues to send our way.  We also plan to replace some worn-out video equipment in the worship center.  I am looking forward to closing off the balcony area in order to bring people closer together and also to making more aesthetic changes to the backdrop and scenery on the stage.  We are not borrowing any money to make these renovations and upgrades to our campus.  As you give, we will pay cash as we go.  Thank you for your faithfulness in giving to our 5-in-5 Building Vision campaign.  Over the next several months I think you will be very pleased and encouraged by what you see.

I am saddened by Jennifer Angle’s announcement that she will be resigning as the director of our GHBC Children’s Ministry.  She has done a fantastic job, but feels the Lord’s leadership and peace in staying home full time with her children and also helping as they prepare to sell their home in Manor and move. Jennifer will work through the end of February, so when you see her please tell her how much you appreciate her!

Finally, let me implore you to please keep praying for our church and “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”  (Ephesians 4:3) God is working mightily in and through our church. Keep praying; keep promoting unity; keep being a good neighbor; keep serving; keep giving, and let us see what great things God will continue to do in us and, more importantly, through us.
