We are off to a good start in 2016 with many ministries happening on our campus. On Wednesday evening there was much excitement with the kick-off of another semester of various events. I am grateful to God for our church family and how we gather on Sundays and Wednesdays for worship, teaching, and fellowship, and how we are scattered throughout our city during the week. The Christian life is much more about being the church than going to church. We the people are the very church of God; what an amazing concept that God would call us to Himself and use us in the expansion of the kingdom of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
I am very excited to preach the Word of God this Sunday. The title of the message is “Believing Prayer,” and the text is the powerful story of Jesus and the Roman centurion in Matthew 8:5-13. Take some time between now and Sunday to read over this text and to pray for our worship service on Sunday; then invite someone to be your guest in your Connect Group class and worship. I hope to encourage you in this message on prayer. I encourage you to get involved in our church-wide prayer ministry (see the information below on Warriors on the Wall.)
On a personal note, I have set a goal to run my first 26.2-mile marathon and am currently training for this challenge. In a few weeks I will begin a new series of sermons entitled HELP! Part of the series is to encourage you in taking care of the temple (your physical body) that God has given to you. Also, if you notice below, our own Gary Jones is starting a class on Wednesday nights beginning January 20 to assist those who are ready to get in shape or get back in shape. Gary and Christine are Ironman Triathletes and are such a blessing to our church. They have been so incredibly encouraging and helpful to me as I have branched out into these unknown territories of marathons and triathlons. At 51 years of age I do question my sanity sometimes, but overall I really enjoy the challenge.
Have a great weekend. Hope you are able to come to the movie War Room Saturday night at 6:00pm in the Great Hall. It is a powerful movie and we are setting it up so you will have a great time.
See you Sunday, if not before.
John 17:20-21 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
