Sunday morning I will teach an evangelism seminar for all Connect Groups from middle school through adult at 9:30 in the Worship Center. The primary topics I will address are the role of the Holy Spirit and prayer, and how to share your faith.
We are blessed to have Dr. Steven Smith preach on Sunday. He is a very gifted preacher of the Word of God and our people always enjoy having him come and preach. He is a professor of preaching at Southwestern Seminary and was recently invited by Dr. Jack Graham to be a part of the preaching ministry at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas. On Saturday evening Dr. Smith will speak to all our deacons and their wives in the Great Hall. He is a close friend, and I respect and appreciate his ministry very much. Pray for him as he comes to speak both Saturday and Sunday. Ask God to protect him and his family and to use him powerfully as he preaches at Great Hills.
We are streamlining our worship services so we can finish up around noon, but it is challenging! If you notice that Terry leads in one song less than usual or I preach a little shorter than normal or if we forgo the stand-and-greet time, please know that it is part of our attempt to finish our worship service a little earlier. This will be beneficial for many reasons, not the least of which is that it will help our volunteers in preschool worship care. One thing you could do to help us greatly is to be in the worship center a few minutes before 11:00am. Currently we have as many people outside the worship center as we do inside at 11:00am! Please make a concerted effort to be present a little early and ready to worship our great God.
I say this often, but allow me to repeat how important it is—invite people to join you for worship and reach out to guests to make them feel welcome. Many churches are phasing out the stand-and-greet time as that actually makes some guests uncomfortable. Let me encourage you to go out of your way to speak to and be friendly to any new faces you see on our church campus.
Sunday is going to be a great day. We will worship the Lord, hear a powerful sermon from Dr. Steven Smith, and honor our deacons. I am looking forward to all that God will do as we praise Him and commit ourselves afresh to be the radiant church He is calling us to be.
Psalm 34:5 “They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.”
