I pray God’s blessings on you as you start the New Year in 2015. We have so very much to be grateful for, as God is so gracious to us, His children. On Sunday, I will share my annual state-of-the-church message, and we will look back on 2014 and give God praise for His numerous blessings. We will also look forward to 2015 and talk about some of the exciting ministries and opportunities before us. Our focal text for Sunday’s message is 1 Thessalonians 2:8 where the Apostle Paul wrote, “We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.” (NLT)
We finished 2014 very strong financially as a church. Thank you for your faithful, consistent and sacrificial giving of your tithes and offerings. One area, however, where we have come up short is our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. We are about $40,000 short of our goal. If you have not given to this great cause of international missions, prayerfully consider making a contribution to the LMCO.
The city of Austin continues to grow at a rapid pace. The latest statistics indicate that 110 people a day move to our city! Many of these will visit our church during the course of a year. Each Sunday we have numerous first-time guests. I ask that you continue to invite everyone you meet to be our guests and when they come, please take the time to reach out to them and make them feel very special. Let them know we genuinely care for them and want to help in any way. The word the Holy Spirit keeps bringing to my mind is “relationships.” During this new year my goal is to deepen the relationships I have with those in our church and reach out to befriend and minister to the many that God will bring to our church in 2015. Will you join me? Will you call, text, write a note, go visit, pray, and do anything the Lord puts on your heart to show others that you care for them and want them to thrive in their relationship with Christ?
Sunday is going to be a great day. I look forward to worshiping the Lord at GHBC and then sharing with our Bible Life leadership at lunch immediately following the worship service. I will DVR the Dallas / Green Bay game and watch later in the afternoon. Can the Cowboys pull off an upset at Lambeau Field on Sunday? I hope so and I will be pulling for them!
I love you, church family, and am blessed to be your pastor. God is stirring and drawing people to Himself and using our church in powerful ways. I believe 2015 will be a great year for us as we serve the Lord together.
