What a wonderful Sunday God blessed us with last week. The Holy Spirit was working in powerful ways using the testimonies of our students and missionaries to inspire us all. Thank you for your generous giving to the urgent housing needs in Nepal for those whose homes were destroyed by the earthquakes. As of today, we have been able to collect $37,295.37! That is amazing. Thank you for being so generous and responding to this palpable need.
I will preach Sunday from Revelation 17:1-6, and the message is entitled “Religious Babylon.” One commentator said this was the most difficult text in the entire book of Revelation. John sees something so amazing that he says literally in the Greek in verse 6, “And I was astonished with great astonishment.” John had seen so much in the previous 16 chapters, but at this point he speaks of his utter astonishment. We will study together why John made this statement. I am excited to be able to preach God’s Word!
On Tuesday evening I made a home visit to an unchurched family that allowed their sons to come to VBS. They were so appreciative of our church and were quite surprised that we would visit them just to say thank you for allowing their kids to come to VBS. And they were very happy to receive the cookies! Thank you, students, for baking the cookies and for those who went out on mission and visited these prospects for our church.
Finally, allow me to continue to communicate with you about our Building Vision Campaign to raise $5 million in five years. Not only will these monies be used to help with some much-needed repairs and equipment for our church campus, the majority will be used to pay off all our debt! Please mark your calendars and participate in as many of these opportunities as you can:
- August 5 • A Day of Prayer and Fasting for GHBC. On Christmas Eve 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt called our nation to set aside New Year’s Day 1945 to “ask forgiveness for our shortcomings of the past, of consecration to the tasks of the present, of asking God’s help in days to come.” I invite everyone to participate in some way and skip a meal or two and spend that time in prayer for GHBC.
- August 9 • We will have a different type of worship experience Sunday evening at 6:00pm. We will sing praise to God, pray, confess our sins, and give God glory through personal testimony. I pray that the Holy Spirit would come and move in great power and conviction during this sacred assembly.
- August 23 • I will share a message entitled “In the Church” from Ephesians 3:20-21. I am looking forward to preaching and casting vision for Great Hills for the years to come.
- August 30 • We will receive a special firstfruits offering for Building Vision and also make a one-year commitment as to what we feel the Lord leading us to give over the next 12 months. What if God so moved on our congregation and we collected the total amount of $5 million in one year? That could happen. And if it did happen, can you imagine the praise we will render to God and the number of lives we will impact with those monies we are currently paying toward debt?
Blessings to you and yours,
Exodus 35:6-7 “So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, ‘Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.’ And the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done—indeed too much.”
