I have been blessed and encouraged by the positive responses from our church regarding the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting beginning Tuesday, August 8. For 40 days we will pray each day for our church and every seventh day we will do some fasting. Also, on the Fast Days, which are all on Tuesdays, we will meet in the sanctuary for a time of praise and prayer. Every day during the 40 days I or one of our pastors will send you an email with specific prayer requests for the day. Some of the main things for which I am praying are: revival; the unity and blessing of our church; our growth and finances; and our church plant, Cornerstone Community Church. Our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting will conclude Sunday, September 17, as we commission the leadership ministry team of Cornerstone.
On Sunday we will continue our study in Nehemiah as we look at Nehemiah 9:16-38. The title of the sermon is “God’s Abundant Mercies.” Nehemiah 9 contains the longest prayer in the Bible, and I am looking forward to preaching on this sacred text. I am trusting God to work in wonderful ways in us and also through us.
Thank you to all who have volunteered to serve in our First Impressions Ministry. We still need volunteers to serve in this strategic ministry. If interested, please contact Ross Hartsfield and he will help get you trained and serving quickly. Tonya Hartsfield shared with me this week that we have many opportunities for people to serve in the children’s ministry on Wednesday evenings in the fall. If you have an interest in serving in the children’s choirs or AWANA, let Tonya or Sharon Irwin, our Children’s Director, know and they will share with you the areas where we need the most help.
Ashley and I will be leading a group to Israel May 14-23, 2018. We took 38 people almost ten years ago. This really is a trip of a lifetime. We will have brochures around the church, so feel free to take one. Also, if you have questions, please contact Kathy Jones and she can help you further.
May the Lord bless you with a wonderful weekend. Let me encourage you to share your faith and invite someone to join you for Bible study and worship on Sunday. It has been really neat to see so many visiting our church. Please continue to make our guests feel welcome. Go out of your way to reach out and see if there is anything you can do to help make their Sunday experience a delightful and meaningful one.
I love you, church family, and I am in the trenches with you. It is a powerful assurance knowing we are marching from victory, even more than to victory. Jesus paid it all and all to Him we owe!
