I continue to hear positive reports of GHBC being a radiant church in our city and beyond. A team of Great Hills members has already been serving at Jollyville Elementary School, and another team of staff and deacons are going tomorrow morning to help with various campus projects. I love servant evangelism; it is a simple and very effective tool of sharing Jesus in a practical way. So many of you are praying, caring, sharing, and celebrating the great things God is doing. Keep up the good work.
VBS is only a few days away! On June 22-26 we will have hundreds of children on our campus. This year’s theme is Journey off the Map. The children will learn more of what it means to go to uncharted territory where they will begin to understand that obedience to God can lead them beyond the expected. The primary biblical text is Isaiah 30:21 which states, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’“ Special emphasis days are planned each day in Preschool. These will include: petting zoo/popcorn day, group pictures/cotton candy day, moon walks/snow-cone day, organized games/cookie day, and piñatas/ice-cream sandwich day. There will be daily giveaways in grade school Worship Rally that will include bike giveaways on Friday! If you have not already signed up to help, please contact someone in our children and preschool ministries because we still need many more volunteers!
I will be preaching from Revelation 16:1-8 on Sunday as we study the first four of the seven bowl judgments of God. It is a fascinating study. As we journey through this amazing book I am reminded of how God promises to bless all who will study and obey it. Revelation motivates me to go deeper with God in praying for the lost, caring and sharing Jesus with them, and celebrating their salvation and the fact that they will be spared the judgment of God poured out on rebellious mankind during the Great Tribulation.
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 21. I am currently preparing a new sermon for our dads that day entitled “The 5 Ws for Dads.” Our focal passage of Scripture is Proverbs 20:7. Please pray for this special day and invite all the dads you know to worship with us on Father’s Day.
The following Sunday, June 28, is going to be one of the biggest Sundays we will have all summer! We will celebrate with the children as they lead us in worship. They will sing the songs they learned in VBS and also present a play. Immediately after worship service there will be a big party on our church campus. Also, comedian and impersonator Dennis Swanberg will speak briefly during the morning worship service and will be back that Sunday evening at 6:00 bringing hysterical laughter as he shares stories of growing up, families, and the funny side of church.
Have a blessed weekend. See you Sunday.
