This Week @ Great Hills

June 13, 2014

Ashley and I had a very nice time in Baltimore, Maryland, this week serving as messengers to the annual SBC meeting. We heard some great preaching and were able to fellowship with friends that we get to see only a couple of times a year. Our friend, Dr. Ronnie Floyd, was elected the new president of our convention. Let us pray for God to use him in a mighty way as the leader of the SBC. The highlights for me were the report given by Dr. Russell Moore, director of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, and the sermon by Dr. J.D. Grear. I will speak about both of these in my message on Sunday morning.

I am looking forward to preaching again from Revelation 3:1-6, as we study the church at Sardis. Take some time this weekend to read over this text and ask God to speak to you, and please pray for me as I preach God’s amazing Word.

Thank you to all those who were trained last Sunday to serve in our worship and media ministry. Every member at GHBC should have at least one ministry in which he or she utilizes the spiritual gift given to him or her by God. All followers of Christ have spiritual gifts and those who consistently use those gifts for the glory of God and the building up of the church are those who are indeed blessed. First Peter 4:10 states, “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

We have close to 300 children already signed up for our Agency D3 VBS! We still need volunteers who will help us in this great week of outreach. Please let Teresa Smith or Jennifer Angle know if you can help so we can place you in a ministry position to serve our precious children. Tomorrow morning at 9:00 we need many volunteers to help place VBS door hangers on homes throughout the neighborhoods around our church. We have an opportunity to impact many families during the week of VBS, June 23-27. Pray and find some way to serve as we seek to have our best VBS ever.

God is faithful and gracious. Remember He loves you and desires only the best for you. Someone has defined grace with the following acrostic and it is a good one—God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. Enjoy His grace and share that grace with someone this week. See you Sunday with a word from the Word.
