This Week @ Great Hills

June 19, 2015

The summer months are fun times of relaxing and taking some time off.  I hope you and your loved ones are having a blessed summer.

Here at GHBC we are moving full-steam ahead, with much planned for the summer!  On Sunday I will pray over all our VBS volunteers and on Monday our Journey off the Map 2015 VBS begins.  I believe it will be another great year of ministering to hundreds of children.  Thank you to all who are preparing to serve next week!  Remember, Sunday, June 28, will be our VBS Celebration Worship Service where the children will lead us in worship with the songs and drama they learned during the week.  On that same Sunday, Dennis Swanberg will speak for a few minutes in the morning service and will then present a full show on Sunday evening at 6:00.  Those of you who have heard Dennis know that he is hilarious and does indeed live up to his title “Minister of Encouragement.”

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 21, and I have prepared a special message based on Proverbs 20:7 entitled “The 5 W’s for Dads.”  It is a personal and practical sermon that I pray is a blessing, a challenge, and an encouragement to all men, but especially fathers.

The Elevate Student Ministry is excited to attend Summer Camp Wild Week (July 7-11) at Latham Springs Camp and Retreat Center this summer!   They still have some spots open so it is not too late to sign up.  You can register at

As I shared last Sunday, we are excited about Building Vision.  Our goal over the next five years is to raise five million dollars above our regular tithes and offerings.  Can you imagine all the amazing ministry a debt-free GHBC can accomplish!  This capital campaign is a means to a greater end.  Yes, we will make some necessary repairs and remodels to our campus, and yes, we will pay off our debt if we accomplish these goals.  However, we will be able to do so much more ministry, service, evangelism and missions.  You will be hearing much more in the days and months ahead, but I wanted you to be praying and asking God to bless you so you can be a blessing for the kingdom of God.

Finally, Saturday, June 20, marks my five-year anniversary of serving as the pastor of GHBC.  Ashley and I thank you for allowing us to serve you. We believe there are some great days and years ahead for Great Hills to be a radiant church that impacts Austin, Texas, and the far reaches of the world.

See you Sunday.
