This Week @ Great Hills

June 5, 2015

As I write today’s article, Pastor Danny and the Forshee family are enjoying some much deserved time away and rest.  Please join me in praying that God would grant them a great time together as a family, as well as a relaxing and refreshing time in the sun!

Caps, gowns, and Pomp and Circumstance remind us that school has finished for the year and summer is upon us.  Congratulations to all of our graduates!  Summer means VBS, camps and vacations are just around the corner.  I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to have a great time on your vacation trip(s) this summer, but don’t forget the ministry of your church in the busyness of your schedule.  Ministry and budget do not take a vacation, and I want to encourage you to be faithful in both.

We are just over two weeks away from VBS.  This is one of the most anticipated weeks on the Great Hills calendar.   It’s not too late to get plugged in for this most exciting week; we still need 30 volunteers. This year’s theme is “Journey off the Map” and it all takes place June 22–26.  Our leadership and volunteers always do an incredible job during VBS!  For more information, contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Jennifer Angle.

Get ready for a side-splitting night of fun with America’s “Minister of Encouragement,” Dennis Swanberg.  This pastor-turned-comedian, originally from Austin, will appear at over 150 churches, conferences, businesses and concert events this year and speak to over 250,000 people.  Dennis will be with us Sunday, June 28, for a short introduction during the worship service and then back at 6:00pm for an evening of impersonations, stories of family and growing up in Austin, as well as the funny side of church life.  You will not want to miss this!  Invite a neighbor or work associate to join you.  These events are a great time to introduce an unchurched friend to your friends at Great Hills.

In Pastor Danny’s absence Sunday, our Young Adult Pastor, Stuart (Stu) Smithson will be preaching. This will give you a great opportunity to get to know him better and hear his heart for the local church and making disciples.  We are blessed to have Stuart on the Pastoral leadership team at Great Hills, along with his wife, Sarah, and their three children, Emily, Caroline and Cooper.

I love you and I am praying for you, church family!  I pray we continue to become the Upward, Inward and Outward Radiant Church God has called us to be.  I’ll see you Sunday ready for a great day of life-changing worship!
