God is working powerfully in and through our church family and I am most grateful. Sunday was a great day in the life of our church. Our Student Pastor, Daniel VanCleave, encouraged all of us who are married to love, honor, serve, and pray with our spouses. This Sunday I will preach a message entitled “HELP! My Emotional Life Is a Wreck.” This sermon took me a long time to prepare. How long? It has taken 51 years. I am truly looking forward to sharing with those who are struggling with the two dreaded D words—discouragement and depression. After I preach this sermon I plan to mail it to those who receive my ministry newsletter in hopes of encouraging them, just as I hope to bless and encourage our church family on Sunday. Many in our church are suffering from thoughts of depression and suicide. Yes, in our church, and my heart goes out to you. I cannot wait to share with you what God has been showing me, especially over these last two months. Many of you know that I have struggled with this “noonday demon” for a good part of my life. But glory to God for the breakthroughs He has granted to me over the last several weeks. If you are on vacation, please find us on the Internet and worship with us. I truly believe this message could save someone’s life.
Have I told you lately, GHBC, how much I love you and love being your pastor! Ashley and I feel very blessed that God called us to come to Austin almost six years ago and plant our lives here serving this church family. What a joy to see so many radiate the love of Jesus and take the gospel to their neighbors and the nations. Hardly a Sunday goes by that we do not see someone profess their faith in Jesus through believer’s baptism. Praise the LORD!
We are closing in on the $900,000 mark in Building Vision. Our goal is to raise $5 million in five years and we are off to an outstanding start. In our first phase, we are planning to add a beautiful coffee shop, replace much of our flooring, and make improvements to the audio and video equipment in the worship center. Thank you for your faithful giving. I ask that you please continue to give your tithes to our church and also make generous offerings to our Missions Ministry and Building Vision. I also encourage you to do what I have done and include GHBC in your will. Quick update on our ground lease—Greystar has a zoning application before the city of Austin to build their high-end apartment complex and I pray it goes through with no problems. Keep in mind that if this comes to completion, we will begin receiving income as a church in 2018. Then in 2020, we complete the sale of the 3.7 acres and at that time GHBC will be completely debt-free.
On Good Friday, March 25, we will gather with many Austin churches at the Frank Erwin Center for a time of worship and celebration at 6:00pm. Please give yourself plenty of time to travel and park. Something about Austin traffic! And then on Easter Sunday, March 27, oh my, we will have a blast here on our church campus We are anticipating hundreds of new faces for our humongous egg-drop. A helicopter will drop 10,000 eggs and hundreds of preschoolers will go pick them up. Then the helicopter will drop another 10,000 eggs and our grade-school children will pick them up! A gracious church member is paying for the helicopter portion, but we as a church will take care of the rest. It will be expensive, but what a great way to spend our tithes and offerings! After the egg-drop we will feed everyone breakfast and then go into the worship center for our Resurrection Celebration Service. Before the service begins, we will have drawings for some free prizes. Come early and ready to serve, and invite as many people as you can to join us. It will be a fantastic morning.
Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead and spring forward. Yes, we will lose an hour of sleep, but we will enjoy more daylight in the evening hours.
Have a great weekend. See you Sunday.
