This Week @ Great Hills

May 19, 2017

God continues to bless us at Great Hills, and I am so very grateful for His provisions and grace.  I hope this weekly newsletter finds you doing well and concluding a blessed week.  As your pastor, one of the privileges of my calling is to pray for you and I do that daily.  Thank you for your prayers for Ashley and me and our family.

On Sunday we will get back into our study of one of the greatest leaders to have ever lived.  In Nehemiah 5:14-19 we will see how Nehemiah handles prosperity, which is one of the greatest threats to being all God wants us to be.  Yes, you read that correctly.  For every one hundred who can withstand adversity, only one can endure prosperity.  When times are tough we readily call upon the Lord for help.  However, when the trial is over and the gentle rains fall upon our parched souls, it’s then that we are often prone to forget God and think that the deliverance was a result of something we did instead of what God did.  I am really looking forward to sharing this message with you on the Lord’s day.

After our deacons meeting on Sunday, Ashley and I will drive to Alabama to spend a week with our family.  The beach is a great place to unwind and unplug, and that is what I am going to do.  Hannah and Leighton will be traveling with us.  We will miss Bryant and Jeffrey, but they both have to work.  Pray for us, please, that we can truly unwind and be refreshed.

As you know, and please forgive me for being a broken record, but in September 2020 life will dramatically change for our radiant church.  We will not only be debt-free and no longer have to pay $57,000 every month for our debt, but we will also put money in the bank.  But until that day, we have much to do and, yes, bills to pay!  Many will travel during these summer months and I am so glad that you are able to do that.  Just please mail in your tithes and offerings so we can continue ministry at GHBC.

Our VBS is around the corner.  Galactic Starveyors VBS week is June 12-16 and we are anticipating another great year.  Please be in prayer for this week, and also reach out to our Children’s Director, Sharon Irwin, and Preschool Director, Teresa Smith, and let them know you are praying for them and ask if they need anything.

Our Student Pastor, Daniel VanCleave, will preach God’s Word and challenge the many graduating seniors on Sunday, May 28.  This will be a special worship service for all our church, but especially for these seniors and their families.

Have a blessed weekend.
