This Week @ Great Hills

May 2, 2014

I have this song, “Open Up the Heavens” by Meredith Andrews, in my mind and heart.  Some of the lyrics are:  “We’ve waited for this day, we’re gathered in Your name calling out to you.  Your glory like a fire awakening desire will burn our hearts with truth.  You’re the reason we’re here; You’re the reason we’re singing.  Open up the heavens we want to see You, open up the floodgates a mighty river flowing from Your heart filling every part of our praise.”  This song captures the desire of my heart—to know Jesus, to experience Him in worship daily, to make Him known, and to make His name and fame glorious for He is worthy.

GHBC family, I hope you are having a good week and making plans to be with us May 3 and 4, tomorrow and Sunday, as we host Nik and Ruth Ripken for our Insanity of God weekend.  We have been anticipating this weekend for quite some time.  We believe God will speak to our church, encourage us, and also issue great challenges to us.  Please make a strong effort to attend each opportunity to hear this dynamic, Jesus-loving couple who will teach us what it means to live a life sold out, completely abandoned for Christ and the gospel.

Thank you to so many who have completed the Ministry Safe training, either in person at the church or online.  If you have not already completed the online quiz, please do so as the window of time for us to take the quiz at no charge has been extended.  I am grateful to so many in our church who are committed to making GHBC a safe place for all—especially for our precious children.

One of our new members shared with me how he picked up many of our new invitation cards to hand out to people and invite them to Great Hills.  His daughter, who is seven years old, asked her dad if she could have some cards because she wanted to invite her friends to Great Hills!  She then came back and asked for more cards.  The best method of church growth is the one found in the book of Acts and in all growing vibrant churches today.  What is this key methodology?  It is simply the local church getting excited about Jesus and what He is doing in their church and telling everybody they meet.  When a church is alive and on fire, people will come and watch her burn!

I love you, church family, and as always ask for your prayers for God’s wisdom and discernment as I seek to give leadership to GHBC.
