After our theology class this week, I was sharing about the ministries of Great Hills Baptist Church and how proud I am of our church. Whether it is disasters in our own city like the south Austin floods, or a catastrophic typhoon like the one that devastated the Philippines this week, our church reaches out to help. I am very blessed to pastor such a church, one that is growing in unity and people, one that believes the Bible wholeheartedly, and one that loves in deed and in truth (1 John 3:18).
Two other ways we reach out and love on those who are struggling are through Operation Christmas Child and Angel Tree. These are wonderful opportunities for us to give the Gospel of Jesus and a tangible Christmas gift to children who would otherwise not receive gifts this holiday season. If you are interested in participating in either of these ministries, please call our church office or go by the displays in the Ministry Mall on Sunday morning.
This Sunday is going to be a packed and powerful day! We will bring our Harvest Sunday Offering to the altar in an act of public worship. Immediately after the welcome we will proceed to the altar and present our sacrificial gifts to the Lord. Please pray about how God would have you give as you make a special offering above your tithe to GHBC. The monies we receive will go toward our operating budget, as we are a couple hundred thousand dollars overspent for the year. Also, Sunday morning we will be blessed to hear the children’s choirs lead us in worship, and we will observe the Lord’s Supper. Sunday evening at 6:00pm we will ordain six new deacons to our deacon ministry and also bring on three previously-ordained men for a total of nine new deacons. Please come for this special time of ordaining these men to the deacon ministry.
Also, on Sunday–I told you it was going to be packed!–we will have our new member class, church@greathills. If you know of someone interested in joining our church, encourage him or her to come be a part of this class that starts at 12:30 and ends at 2:00pm. If you are reading this and you’re not a member, then you come and join our church family.
I am so grateful to God and for all of you who helped make the last two Sundays absolutely wonderful. Both Ken Ham and General Wright thoroughly enjoyed coming to our church. General Wright said many times how blessed he was to meet the people in our church! Speaking of great people at Great Hills, I had the joy of visiting our choir on Wednesday night prior to their weekly rehearsal. They are dedicated servants who lead us in worship faithfully each week. I also peeked in on the orchestra as they were working away preparing for our Christmas program, A Great Hills Christmas 2013. I worshipped with our students at Elevate; what a joy that was! We have an outstanding student ministry, and our students continue to serve the Lord and to be faithful to Him. We are currently searching for God’s man to come lead our students. We ask that you please pray for us as we continue to pray, interview, and seek the man God has for us. Also, please keep praying as we seek the person to lead our young adult ministry.
Have a blessed weekend. Don’t miss Sunday, as it will be a wonderful day in the Lord.
