It has been a great week of ministry here in South Asia serving the Lord and some of God’s finest people. Our GHBC team joined with other pastors and teams from the USA and helped one of our mission partners. God blessed our time immensely. Terry Hurt and Kristen Terkelsen did a great job leading in worship during the pastors conference portion of our mission trip. I was blessed to be able to preach many times. One day was pretty rough as I got dehydrated and also had some stomach issues. However, it only lasted 24 hours and God allowed me to not miss one of my preaching assignments. Thank you for your prayers for our team as well as our other teams currently serving overseas in South Africa, Ukraine, and Nepal. I appreciate the way GHBC takes seriously the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations. Thank you for allowing me to go and represent Christ and GHBC to the nations of the world.
On Sunday I will preach a message from 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 entitled “The Beauty of the Cross.” This is a powerful passage of Scripture that speaks to us about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for Terry and me as we will be a bit road-weary. But we both are looking forward to being back to Great Hills. I am always excited to go on mission and also excited to come home. There is no place like home. One of the reasons I want to serve on short-term mission trips is that it stretches me greatly. I am such a routinist and like to do things a certain and comfortable way. On mission trips certainty and comfort are not on the agenda! It humbles me and makes me appreciate again how blessed I am to live in America. Going overseas also motivates me to leverage our blessings and resources so more people can know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Please be praying about the offering that we will receive on Harvest Offering Sunday, November 19. This is a big day for our church as we will all come to the altar that morning and present our above-the-tithe offerings for our church. At this time of year we are normally behind in our giving to expenses. I am optimistic that with a great Harvest Offering Sunday and end-of-year giving, we will be able to make great strides in catching up.
There are many ministries and opportunities for service listed below in this newsletter. Take a moment to scroll down and read what is up and coming in our church. Next weekend there are some neat things happening. On Saturday, November 4, Dave and Lola Williams are hosting our church again at their Crowe’s Nest Farm. This is always a fun time, especially for families with children. On Sunday night, November 5, our church will show a film documentary on the persecuted church. After the film I will serve on a panel with other religious leaders to discuss more about this very important topic of religious freedom and persecution.
Have a blessed weekend.
