My heart breaks for all those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. I am grateful for how GHBC is helping in so many ways with regard to this storm. The picture you see below is our Atrium filled with cots provided by the Red Cross. We thought initially that we would be housing evacuees from Houston and other parts of Texas along the coast; however, on Wednesday evening the Red Cross asked if they could stay at GHBC! We said absolutely. So when you come to church on Sunday, especially if you enter in through the Atrium, and see all these cots, you will know why. So many of you have offered to help, and please know I am very grateful to you. You should have received an e-mail on Wednesday evening sharing in detail how you can help, give, volunteer, etc. We will continue to communicate with you through email and social media as we receive pertinent information. As you can imagine, the situation is very fluid with changes happening very frequently. Please continue to be flexible and patient, and let us all pray and serve however God will lead us.
On Sunday we will have Jeffrey and Hannah Samplaski with us. Jeffrey is our new Student Pastor and will speak to us for a few minutes during the worship service. We are blessed to have Jeffrey and Hannah join our team. We are also blessed that Daniel and Cheri VanCleave will be serving our young adults as Daniel has become our new Pastor to Young Adults. We are very blessed to have such dedicated pastors and directors serving us at GHBC.
I will preach a message entitled “Happy Days” from Nehemiah 12:27-47 on Sunday. I had planned on preaching this message last Sunday, but felt led to share a sermon from Psalm 46 because of the tragic storm that hit our state. Pray for me and invite many to join you for Connect Group and Worship. Many of you are serving in our First Impressions Ministry and I want to say thank you! You guys on the golf carts in the rain, bless you! It is imperative that all of us go out of our way to welcome and greet the many guests that God sends us every Sunday. If you see a new face, introduce yourself and ask if there is anything that you can do to help them. For the One!
Our 40 Days of Pray and Fasting is going very well. We have two more Tuesday noon prayer meetings, with the next one being this Tuesday. Come join us as we pray and worship. It is a powerful time and you will be amazed at how quickly the time goes. The last few days of our 40 Day emphasis will be September 11-16 and we are calling this time Cleansing the Temple. We are asking all our people to sign up for an hour of personal reflection and public reading of God’s Word. Many of you have joined me and signed up for your hour. (Mine is 2:00am, September 11.) Our deacons are going to provide leadership and security for this wonderful time of personal revival. When you enter the worship center on Sunday you will notice four structures that we are calling prayer stations which will be utilized during Cleansing the Temple. Thank you, Bud Bruner, for building these!
Thank you again for all that you do as a church. We are planting a new church and really stepping up to help in the Hurricane Harvey relief. We are doing this not out of great abundance, but great need as the churches in Macedonia did in 2 Corinthians 8:1-2. But God is faithful!
Kids ministry starts back on Wednesday September 6. God bless Sharon Irwin, Teresa Smith, and all our great volunteers!
