I am enjoying teaching systematic theology in the Great Hall on Thursday mornings. The hour goes by pretty quickly. Some are unable to attend physically, but watch us online. To watch online, do the following:
- Go to GHBC website (www.ghbc.org).
- Hover over Sermons.
- Click on Live Worship.
I am encouraged by your interest, and I’m excited to see so many growing inwardly in their relationship with God. One of the core values of our radiant church is inward in discipleship. Studying theology is heady stuff, but learning more about how awesome God is, well, it touches more than our heads; it impacts our hearts and hands. What a joy it was yesterday to focus on the attributes of God. As Rich Mullins wrote, “Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom, power, and love, our God is an awesome God.” Kari Jobe has a line in her song, You Are for Me, which is very inspiring: “So faithful, so constant, so loving and so true. So powerful in all You do. You fill me, You see me, You know my every move. You love for me to sing to You.” God loves us and enjoys us singing praises to Him. Scripture teaches us that He loves us so much He sings over us (Zephaniah 3:17).
On Sunday we will continue our Explore God study with a sermon entitled “Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?” Our primary text is Psalm 44 as the psalmist cries out to God to help him and deliver him from his anguish. There are many things I do not understand about this subject (the theological term is theodicy), but I will teach some truths from God’s Word that I think will help and encourage you, though I cannot answer all the questions related to this immense subject. If you know someone who is hurting or struggling with this topic, invite him or her to join you for worship on Sunday.
God continues to bless our church and grow us deep and wide. I am grateful for the new single adults and families that are joining us. Our next new member class is Sunday afternoon, September 29, in the Great Hall from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. If you know someone interested in uniting with our church family, let them know about church@greathills and encourage them to preregister.
There are so many ministries and events happening in and through our church that there are too many to list. Please take a look at our church website; it is very helpful and informative. I look forward to seeing you Sunday! Please come a few minutes early as we enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise! Let us come to worship thanking Him and blessing Him, and then leave doing the same. (Psalm 100:4)
God is Awesome!
