This Week @ Great Hills

September 6, 2013

You will notice a new name and look for this weekly publication.  We think this new graphic and title better represents the purpose of this email.  It will continue to be the same Friday email with the same information but under a new name.  That’s all.

We are off to a great start with the Explore God campaign.  Many of you came to the city-wide prayer meeting last night.  We are trusting God to do a great work in our city for His glory.  Sunday we will begin the Explore God sermon series with a sermon entitled “Does Life Have a Purpose?”  Please read over the text, Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 and 12:13.   I believe Sunday will be a wonderful day in the Lord.  Come to church and bring someone with you.  Sunday night we begin our Explore God small discussion groups throughout the city.  Ashley and I are honored to co-host one in our neighborhood.

There are so many good things happening at our church.  Lives are being changed by the power of the gospel, and marriages and families are being strengthened.  Tonight we will have a fun night of encouraging married couples at our Thrive / Marriage Matters.  It starts at 6:30 with a meal, followed by some teaching and marital blessings.  For moms of preschoolers, we begin MOPS on September 18.  Many have expressed interest and that is great, but we ask you to please register so we can prepare. You can sign up on the GHBC website.

In Sunday’s worship guide you will find a lot of great information about our church.  We will have an insert which you can use to nominate a godly man to serve our church as a deacon.  We will take these nominations in the month of September.  Please pray about whom you will nominate to serve our church in this important role.

Our Systematic Theology class continues to have people sign up.  We have over 170 people to study theology at 6:45am beginning Thursday, September 12.  If you have not ordered your textbook, please contact Kathy Jones and she can order one for you.  If you plan to attend, please arrive a little early to grab a cup of coffee.  We will start promptly at 6:45 and I will teach until 7:30.  We will then have a brief time of questions and answers before we are on our way to work.  I am looking forward to this fall and the spring semester of studying the great doctrines of our faith!

Our hearts go out to the family of Lori Dise.  She passed from this life to heaven last Sunday.  Please pray for and encourage Ray and the children, Ashton and Haley.  They are a sweet family and a wonderful blessing to our church family.

Have a great weekend.  I look forward to seeing you Sunday as we begin the Explore God emphasis.
