So much is happening in our world with floods, hurricanes, and fires. During these times of hardship and tragedy, the church of Jesus Christ always rises up and ministers to those in need. I am grateful for how so many in our church give, go, and serve when tough times come. Thank you for your support for the Hurricane Harvey victims! You have been so generous, and through your efforts we have been able to help many. Also, thank you for all the support given to the Moises Maradiaga family in the tragic death of his wife, Rosemary. What makes these offerings so special to me is that our church is giving generously not out of an overflow or abundance, but, like the churches in Macedonia (2 Corinthians 8:2), we are giving out of need. God sees our sacrifice and desire to help, and I know He will meet our needs as we continue to be obedient to help others. I believe we are never more like Jesus than when we are giving and serving others.
On Sunday we will continue our series on Nehemiah; our text is Nehemiah 12:43-44. We will take note of the great sacrifices the children of Israel made during their joyous celebration of dedicating the wall around Jerusalem. And then it will be our great privilege to remember the greatest sacrifice ever given when Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We will observe the Lord’s Supper which is always a special time of worship. Please come prepared to worship the Lord in praise, giving, preaching, and observing the elements.
We had our first Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meeting this week. The ladies had a great turnout with everyone enjoying a wonderful time. There will be a city-wide prayer meeting with Pastor Jim Cymbala from Brooklyn Tabernacle Church in New York City on Thursday, September 14, at 7:00pm at Hyde Park Baptist Church. This will be a very powerful night of worship and prayer. I look forward to attending and hope many of you can make it as well.
God is blessing our church in so many ways during these 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting! We have one more noon-day prayer meeting on September 11. I invite you to join the many who are coming to pray for GHBC, our new church plant (Cornerstone Community Church), and for our country.
