Today I Met a Man

A couple of weeks ago I called AT&T and scheduled a service call to make some wiring changes at the house.  The only thing available in the near future was the morning of June 3 so I confirmed the appointment.  I worked from home this morning until the doorbell rang about 9:00 AM and I met Raul, the service tech.  After discussions of the need and optional solutions the conversation turned toward spiritual things.  I found out he was a believer and an active member of Shoreline.  We traded stories of when we came to Austin and how we got involved in our churches.

The conversation turned toward family.  He noticed our pictures of Teacon and Haiti kids around the house.  I told him Debbie was presently in Port-Au-Prince with our daughter, Emily, who was in the process of adopting that cute little fellow.  I then naturally ran the roster of kids and where they lived and what they were doing with their lives.  He told me about his 3 boys and said he was a single father raising them alone.  I never know what that means.  He went on the say, “I lost my angel 2 years ago.”  He shared with me the story of her battle with cancer.

He wrapped up his work and began to leave and I asked him if I could pray with him.  So there at the front door I prayed for this single dad who is still grieving and raising his boys alone.  It is very cool to me in meeting a person who is a believer how your spirit immediately bears witness with their spirit.

I love these divine appointments.  I have been guilty of being in such a hurry that I miss these opportunities to speak life and/or a witness into people lives.  I hate it when that happens and have been purposeful to be more attentive to these moments in my day.  These appointments can happen anywhere and at anytime.  God wants to use us to bless people.  I don’t want to miss the opportunities He gives me.

Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”  You, like I, have heard Pastor Danny quote this verse many times.  Speaking life into others is part of the love language of the Radiant Church.

Lastly, I wanted to add the TobyMac video “Speak Life” from his CD “Eye On It.”  It’s a great listen if you haven’t heard it all I recommend it!
